Attending The Extra Mile
Hi! Many of you might remember me from the National Quartet Convention coverage I did for the Tree-o site the last two years.
I’ve been intrigued by the concept of The Extra Mile ever since the first announcement went up on the site. It wasn’t just the event—it was what it represented for our style of music. Back in the (very) old days, Southern Gospel was experienced through singing schools and church homecomings. For the last few decades, Southern Gospel has revolved around the live concert. But due to rising gas costs and a host of other problems, it’s just getting harder and harder for artists to pull off 200 concerts each year.
What’s next?
I think that The Extra Mile could be a model for what Southern Gospel looks like a decade from now. What especially intrigues me is that the product table is gone, and that the music is included in the cost of the event.
I recently confirmed that I’ll be able to make it. I’m looking forward to setting foot in Tennessee for the first time and meeting many of you. Since I write about just about everything, I imagine I’ll be writing about it, too.
If you haven’t registered yet, sign up here. It’s more than music, and even more than an event . . . if it’s a success, it could be history in the making.
See you there!

I wish I could attend but being out of work for 8 months just won’t allow me to attend. Good luck and God Bless!
Hey, I was for some reason surprised to see you in my inbox!
Because I never email? Or because I was posting here?
Because you were posting here.
I am glad you are going Daniel. I can’t wait myself and driving 14 hours to get there from Massachusetts. I hope you do write about it.
God Bless,
Ron
Ron – I’m looking forward to meeting you! I do plan to write about it, I’m just not sure what aspects I’ll be writing about yet.
My daughter wants to know the absolutely best..I mean food network worthy place to have BBQ in PF or Nashville area
Lauren,
I was there at the concert & I really enjoyed it so much that it got me to think about what God is wanting me to do & that is to dig deeper in his word. With everything that I am going through. I know God is carrying me & he has given me the strength to withstand all that has & is happening with me.
My husband passed away little over two years ago (8-27-07), my daughter passed away little over one year ago(8-11-08). The trial is comming up April 12, 2010. So please pray that God will be the speaker in all the wittnesses & that the juror will see who is telling the truth.
My husband went in to chronic rejection in 2005 after having a lung transplant in 2000. God gave us little over seven more years with him & I thank God for that! He is an awesone God!!!!!!!!!!
Not even a year after my husband passed away & went on to his new home, my daughter was shot & killed. Yes! I’ve been there & I know what being down is like but, If I dwell on the things that has happened & let satin get me down then that’s when I know that satin will try to use all of his tools to keep me down. So, I start thinking of how it could have been & how it all worked out it could have been much worse. I just keep quoting scriptures & rebuking satin. You know what, he has to flee “IN THE NAME OF JESUS”, that is some powerful words that God gives us to use on satin. I could write a book about all of my trials & how God lead me through all of them. It all started in 1995, & is still going one. My shoulder are getting tired but, I know that God has & is still carrying me, he will not leave me nor will he forsake me & that he will go all the way unto the end with me. His word tells me that & I believe it. God has given me so much “FAITH”. The thing about it is that everyone around me can see God working through all of my situations.
I listen to all of you CD’s & I have started reading your book. You have inspired me so much. Your mother did really great also at the conference. I love to hear the trio sing.
Please let me know when your next conference will be. I don’t think that I will be able to make the Sing In The Sun this year because of the trial but, maybe we can go to the one in Gatlinburg, TN, this year.
We went to the Singing In The Sun in 2009, had a blast.
Sister In Christ,
Linda
